Launched back in 2007, the Shiver SL750 is Aprilia’s take on a mid-sized performance naked bike and it features a torquey 90 degree V-twin which produces enough power to provide a fun ride whilst still being smooth enough for less experienced riders to get to grips with easily. Handling is sure footed and precise, but the Shiver boasts a comfortable riding position, making it a perfectly practical proposition for everyday riding.
As far as performance nakeds are concerned, the Shiver SL750 is a well appointed machine and sports radial front brakes, an LCD digital instrument panel and stylish twin underseat exhausts. From 2008 the Shiver became available with ABS brakes and the ABS model is easily identified by its distinctive belly pan which contains the electronics for the braking system. In 2009 Aprilia introduced the Shiver GT, a half faired version which makes a very capable and practical mid-size all rounder.
A good used Aprilia Shiver can make an excellent buy. Prices are generally reasonable (the Shiver originally listed at less than £6000 as a new bike), and overall build quality is good. As always, watch out for accident damage and a bike with a full dealer service history is a bonus.
